Fiery Portsmouth Crash Closes Road, Knocks Out Power
Anthony Road was closed for nearly two hours as crews worked to extinguish the car, which burst into flames after hitting a utility pole.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — A fiery crash on Anthony Road in Portsmouth closed the road for around two hours and cut power to the area. The 19-year-old driver was pulled to safety before the car burst into flames.
According to Portsmouth Police, the young woman lost control of the car while driving on Route 24 South just before 5 p.m. on Friday, leaving the highway and crashing into a utility pole on Anthony Road.
The crash damaged the power lines, cutting power to the surrounding area. The road was completely closed to traffic for about two hours are crews worked to clear the scene.

A bystander pulled the driver to safety before the car caught fire. When emergency crews arrived, she was alert and conscious. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
