Hinckley Yachts Buys Morris Yachts

The yacht builder, which operates a shipyard in Portsmouth, acquired Morris' assets on Jan. 1.

PORTSMOUTH, RI—Hinckley Yachts on Tuesday announced that it has acquired Morris Yachts of Maine.

Hinckley acquired the assets of the sailboat builder on Jan. 1 and “plans to continue Morris’ boatbuilding and service operations in Downeast Maine.”

Morris’ operations will function under the name Morris Yachts, LLC.

Both companies have been building yachts within a quarter-mile of each other in Trenton, Maine.

With the new arrangement, “about 380 craftsmen, engineers and technicians will provide a deep pool of talent for the building of world-class yachts,” the company said in a news release.

Morris yacht owners will be welcome at any of Hinckley’s East Coast Service yards from Maine to Florida.

Morris Yachts was founded 40 years ago and has built more than 300 sailboats.

Hinckley maintains offices in Portsmouth, Maine, Maryland, Florida, Connecticut, Michigan and along the Pacific Coast.
