PORTSMOUTH, RI — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Margie Brennan, who nominated Jackie Shearman of Portsmouth. Shearman is extremely involved in the community, helping multiple organizations achieve their goals.

"Jackie helps at our library, the PHS band, the shoes collection, CFP community, and [is] an active member of Kate Grana with the renovation of the Portsmouth High School $425,000 auditorium," Brennan said. "She now helps make masks to help people and still helps with so many other community projects. Jackie is a humble person who does so much for our community."

Thank you for all you do, Jackie!
