Hurricane Jose Will At Least Nudge Rhode Island

A hazardous weather outlook has already been issued for the Ocean State, with a minimum of a rough coast. Also, rain tonight and tomorrow.

As the latest hurricane - Jose - churns in the Atlantic, the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for all of Rhode Island with the caveat that Jose may never be felt up here beyond a rough coast. But it bears watching.

"Jose is expected to bring high surf and dangerous rip currents to some ocean-exposed beaches later this weekend into the middle of next week," the NWS writes in its warning. " It remains uncertain if Jose will get close enough to southern New England for any other impacts during the first half of next week."

Jose is currently a Category 1 hurricane toiling a ways off the Bahamas. At a minimum, it would appear next week would be the wrong time to squeeze in last-second beach days as the storm continues to move north.

What's more certain is tonight and tomorrow's weather. What was Hurricane Irma will dampen Southern New England Friday. And the NWS says the risk for showers - and even a few thunderstorms - Thursday is increasing. The showers will start southwest and move northeast tonight.

The NWS also posted a radar simulation of tonight's precipitation, so you can tell where it will rain and when. The late afternoon/early evening appears to be the most worrisome.
