Kitchen Fire Sunday At Graziano's In Island Park

Passersby saw the smoke and called the fire department. The restaurant will be closed for a few days.

PORTSMOUTH, RI—Crews put out a fire at Graziano's 501 Cafe on Park Avenue in Island Park on Sunday. According to fire Capt. Howie Tighe, multiple callers reported smoke from the door and from the roof at 5:22 p.m. A passerby tried unsuccessfully to gain entry. When crews arrived, they found a small fire confined to the kitchen.

"We were able to get there fairly quickly," he said, although most of the department was busy responding to rescue calls. Middletown and Tiverton provided mutual aid.

There were no injuries. No one had been in the restaurant at the time the fire started. The state fire marshal is investigating the cause, he said. The state health department will also conduct an inspection before the restaurant can re-open.
