Man Breaks Into Ex-Wife's Home, Brandishes Sword: Portsmouth PD
Police say the woman and her friend came home as the man poured gasoline on the floor and threatened to light the house on fire.
PORTSMOUTH, RI — A man was arrested Sunday after he broke into his ex-wife's Portsmouth home with a sword and threatened to light the house on fire. Police say Chong Yoon, 75, violated a no-contact order when he broke a window at the Armando Drive house and climbed inside.
Police say Yoon's ex-wife and a friend arrived home a little before 8:30 p.m. as Yoon was pouring gasoline onto the floor, saying he would burn the house down. When officers arrived, Yoon brandished what they described as a samurai sword. Yoon refused to drop the weapon when ordered to do so and tried to run away. Police were able to restrain him and he was taken to Newport Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained before his arrest.
Yoon was arraigned on Monday and charged with fifth-degree domestic arson, breaking and entering, resisting arrest and violation of a protective order.
