Mass. Woman Arrested After Driving Into Portsmouth Reservoir

PORTSMOUTH, RI — A Massachusetts woman is facing charges after driving into the Lawton Valley Reservoir with three children inside her car. Amanda Nappi, 30, of Milford, has been charged with three counts of of cruelty or neglect to a child.

Portsmouth police were called to the area around 3 p.m. on Friday, where they discovered Nappi's 2007 Toyota Highlander partially submerged in the water. According to police, Nappi drove up onto the edge of the embankment before heading down into the water. She and her three oung children were rescued from the vehicle and taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Once released, Nappi was arrested and charged with three counts of neglect or cruelty to a child. She was taken to the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston after failing to post bail. Her children were turned over to the Massachusetts Department of Children, Youth and Families.
