PORTSMOUTH, RI—Melville Elementary School's Jump Rope Squad is headed for Smith Hill on Thursday. At 3 p.m., the children will perform at the Statehouse rotunda, as part of the annual Fitness on the Hill Day. The Rhode Island Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance asked them to participate.

According to Pam Storme, physical education teacher at Melville Elementary, the Fitness on the Hill "event is an annual celebration and advocacy event for Health and Physical Education in Rhode Island Schools. Physical Education and Health Education educators from around the state will also be present to talk with legislators before they attend their sessions."

The children rehearsed and worked on their routines Wednesday afternoon.
