Middletown, Portsmouth, Foster Beaches Reopened
All three beaches closed by the Rhode Island Department of Health for high bacteria levels have been reopened.
PORTSMOUTH, RI — All three beaches closed by the Rhode Island Department of Health this week have been reopened. Third Beach in Middletown, Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth and the beach at Ginny B's Campground in Foster have all reached safe bacteria levels.
Both Aquidneck Island beaches were closed Friday, about a week after being reopened following an earlier closure.
The particularly rainy spring and early summer could be behind the high number of beach closures this year, RIDOH said, as large amounts of precipitation carries bacteria into the water.
