Newport Daily News Sold To Gate House Media
The sale will also give Gate House ownership of the Independent, the Mercury, and magazines.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — The Newport Daily News is being sold to Gate House, the same company that now owns the Providence Journal. The sale is to be finalized Nov. 1. Gate House also owns the Portsmouth (N.H.) Herald, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, and community newspapers.
According to its website, as of August, Gate House owned 125 daily newspapers, more than 600 community newspapers and more than 500 websites. The company is in 36 states.
