No Threats Made Against Portsmouth School: Police

Portsmouth police said no threat, verbal or written, was made against anyone following an anonymous tip submitted over the weekend.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — No credible threat was made against Portsmouth Schools on Sunday, police said Monday afternoon. As an extra precaution, extra officers were on hand Monday morning to reassure students, staff and parents.

Portsmouth police said the department received a an anonymous tip through their Say Something Anonymous Reporting System on Sunday saying that someone had posted a photo of a gun on Snapchat with a threatening message. Officers were able to identify and speak with those involved in the reported threat, also investigating data from cell phones and Snapchat.

The department was able to determine that no threats, verbal or written, were made against anyone, with or without a gun.

The school department sent an email to students and parents notifying them of the anonymous tip.
