In a Court of Honor ceremony at St. Mary's Episcopal Church earlier this year, Portsmouth High School junior Peter Fiaschetti was awarded Boy Scout's highest rank achievement, Eagle Scout, by Troop 82 Scoutmaster Francis 'Sam' Obert. A review of the candidate was performed by Justin Mostert, Troop 82 Scoutmaster Emeritus, who guided Peter from crossover as a Webelo Cub Scout through to completion of his Eagle Scout requirements. CMR, USN (Ret) Carlton Johnson of the Narragansett Council Executive Board was the guest speaker for the ceremony. Peter Fiaschetti, Troop 82's 143rd Eagle Scout, is the son of Dr. David and Mary Ann Fiaschetti of Portsmouth.
A major requirement to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout is to develop, coordinate and complete a community service project. Peter designed and led teams of volunteers in the creation of 100 trail directional signs benefitting the Aquidneck Land Trust's hiking trails in Middletown. The project was accomplished with material discounts provided by Riverhead Building Supplies and Sherwin Williams, both of Middletown.
Having been active in scouting for 11 consecutive years, Peter has served in various leadership positions for Boy Scout Troop 82: Scribe, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster and Order of the Arrow Representative. For the last two years, Peter has been Troop 82's Introduction to Leadership Skills Training Course Director. Peter is a Brotherhood member of Boy Scout's National Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow, where he currently serves as Tulpe Lodge 102 Brotherhood Committee Chairman as well as Wampanoag Chapter Vice Chief and Selfie Committee Co-Chairman. In 2015, he graduated from Narragansett Council's National Youth Leadership Training and was chosen to serve as a Troop Guide staff member for various 2016 and 2017 sessions. This summer, Peter will staff the 2017 National Scout Jamboree in the Summit Bechtel Reserve, WV.
