Portsmouth Community Theater Presents "Arsenic and Old Lace"

The show runs from July 29 through Aug. 1.

The Portsmouth Community Theater is bringing to life the 1939 Joseph Kesserling masterpiece play, “Arsenic and Old Lace” starting at the end of July.

The shows will be on July 29 through Aug. at 7 p.m. at the Aquidneck Island Christian Academy. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and members of the military and $8 for children.

Described as a comedy “to die for,” the play features Mortimer Brewster who “discovers a surprising and horrifying hobby his two aunts have preoccupied themselves with over the year,” the community theater said in a release.

Andrew Kelly of the theater said the sets “look great and the costumes are fantastic.”

The play is a black comedy and has been a staple for community theater groups for decades, thanks to its cutting wit and dark theme.
