PORTSMOUTH, RI — Police are warning residents to lock their cars. A group of people have been roaming neighborhoods for unlocked cars. The suspects wear dark hooded sweatshirts, dark pants and sneakers, and they work during the night, police said. Last week, they hit Buckwheat Avenue, Water Street, Stubtoe Lane and Johnny Cake Lane. The break-ins happened on different days and different times, but the homeowners reported people on their property and trying to get inside the car. In one case, loose change was taken.

"A photograph of one of the videos shows the suspect wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt, dark pants and 'Van like' sneakers,"police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
