Portsmouth Town Council Elects New President, Vice-President
Kevin M. Aguiiar was chosen by a 4-3 vote to lead the council over Linda L. Ujifusa, who was the top vote-getter on Nov. 6.

PORTSMOUTH, RI —The Portsmouth Town Council has elected its new president and vice-president. At a meeting Nov. 19, Kevin M. Aguiar was chosen by a 4-3 vote to lead the council over Linda L. Ujifusa. Ujifusa, who was the top vote-getter on Nov. 6, was elected vice-president unanimously.
The councilors held a brief discussion about the nominees for president and focused on whether the top vote-getter should be named council president. Ultimately, they settled on Aguiar.
The vote followed the swearing-in ceremony for Daniela T. Abbott, Aguiar, Keith E. Hamilton, Leonard B. Katzman, Andrew V. Kelly, J. Mark Ryan and Ujifusa, who took office as councilors.
