PORTSMOUTH, RI — Portsmouth residents once again have a place to safely dispose of expired or unwanted prescription medications. The Portsmouth Prevention Coalition announced that a prescription drug dropbox is once again available to the public at the police department's new headquarters.

The dropbox is open 24 hours a day at the department's new station at 2270 East Main Rd., providing a place for residents to safely get rid of old medications.

The Rhode Island Department of Health said to always safely dispose of medications in drop-off boxes or by crushing them up and mixing them with cat litter or used coffee grounds. Never flush medications down the toilet or leave them in medicine cabinets past their expiration dates.
