Rhode Island Labor Day Weekend Forecast: Harvey Moving Northeast

Here is when Rhode Island will feel what's left of the historic storm coming up from Texas.

Harvey, the relentless storm that dumped a record 50-plus inches on areas of southeast Texas in a deadly display of nature, is finally beginning to move away from the area. It will make its way northeast, eventually getting to New England in a far weekend state, but dampening Labor Day weekend plans for many.

Harvey on Wednesday forced more evacuations as it made landfall again in Louisiana. It will cut across some of the country over the next few days, hitting New England primarily on Sunday, according to forecasts. At this point, it would likely be known as a tropical rainstorm. It'll be moving at a far greater speed than it has been, so any major flooding is as of now not expected.

"Harvey will begin to accelerate northeastward across the interior U.S. late this week," according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.

Saturday is expected to be in the low 70s and party cloudy, while Monday and Tuesday look picturesque with a sunny forecast in the 80s. But there are still some variables. Any slight shift in track in either direction will affect the main area of rainfall.

As Harvey makes it way northeast and blends in with a non-tropical storm, it may spread out. About 1-2 inches of rain is being expected Sunday, with higher amounts locally.

Rhode Island and Massachusetts could still have to deal with what has become Tropical Storm Irma as it churns up the coast this week.
