Rhode Island Weather Forecast: Nate Bears Down On Region
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued as the Red Sox' pivotal playoff game is in danger of a washout.

The remnants of Nate, the storm system which has been switching between a hurricane and a tropical depression, will move through Rhode Island Monday. Your holiday plans - and the Red Sox' pivotal playoff game - could be in danger of a rainout. (See the Red Sox forecast below.)
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for all of Rhode Island and Massachusetts as the storm, in a much weaker state than when it was in the battered Gulf Coast, threatens to make its way across Southern New England. Heavy rainfall, including possible localized flooding, are among the warnings.
"For some areas, Nate will bring the biggest rainfall in six to eight weeks or longer," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.

About an inch of rain is generally expected across the interior part of the region, but some areas could see up to 2 inches. The mixture of slick roads covered in fallen leaves is a risky one. Quick downpours have already been reported across the state this morning. The evening commute will see fewer motorists on the road courtesy of Columbus Day.
It's also expected to be a particularly windy Monday, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 miles per hours in the southeastern part of the state.

The rain should come to an end by Monday night. The Boston area currently isn't expected to get much rain past noon, according to Weather.com, but the National Weather Service said the Boston Metro area could see "embedded heavier downpours" to return in the afternoon into the evening.
If the forecast turns just a bit, the afternoon Red Sox game could get washed out. The Red Sox play Houston at Fenway Park in what is supposed to be a 1:08 p.m. start. Boston needs to win to extend its season, and it'll be afforded the day to squeeze in the game.
"Unfortunately looking like a small window of opportunity for the game," WHDH meteorologist David Bagley told Patch. "Few showers around at 1 p.m. ... remaining damp/muggy/drizzly with bit of a break from 'steady' rain through around 3 p.m.," at which point another band of rain would move in.
Tuesday is a scheduled off day in the series, but there would be major implications for both teams getting an extra day of rest. Boston could bring back ace Chris Sale a game early in that case, making another attempt to stave off elimination and extend the best-of-five series to a deciding Game 5 Wednesday in Houston.
