RI Snow Forecast: South Coast Takes Modest Jackpot On Thursday

The National Weather Service in Taunton issued a special weather statement warning Rhode Islanders the snow could add up on Thursday.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — An extra helping of snow could be coming to Rhode Island on Thursday morning, the National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass., says. A special weather statement came out Wednesday afternoon at 3:24 p.m. to let people know the light snow expected between 4 and 7 a.m. won't be the end of the snowfall for the south coast at least. After the first snowfall's over, a band of moderate snow will set up and drop more snow between 7 and 10 a.m. Then it will all move offshore. The total accumulation? Anything from 1 to 3 inches for the Rhode Island coast.

The south coast of Rhode Island and Massachusetts catch the brunt of it. So, Westerly to Newport and New Bedford to Cape Cod could see problems during the morning commute. Farther to the north, the snow should be mostly flurries and snow showers.
