RI Subway Shop offers Deflategate Judge Free Subs for Life

Not to be outdone by a Dunkin' Donuts in Maine, a Subway in Portsmouth is offering Judge Richard Berman free sandwiches for life.

On Friday, Izzy Aponte, a manager at the Subway sandwich shop on East Main Road in Portsmouth was talking to his boss when the topic of Tom Brady, deflated footballs and the court decision this week that punted away the quarterback’s four-game NFL suspension.

Aponte, in a telephone interview, said his boss mentioned that he saw a picture of a sign outside a Dunkin’ Donuts in Maine offering Judge Richard Berman, who threw out Tom Brady’s suspension, free coffee for life.

It’s widely known that drinking coffee on an empty stomach isn’t always the best idea.

So Aponte and the rest of the crew at the Portsmouth Subway have a similar message for Judge Berman: how about free subs for life?

“We figured we’d try it and see if something happens,” Aponte said.

Along with the rest of Patriots nation, Aponte said he’s glad to see that Brady got vindication in the courts.

“I’m glad he’s gotten away from it,” Aponte said. “You know. It’s Tom Brady.”

Motorists passing by the shop on Friday might have seen a crew member sticking up the letters, which form the phrase “Richard Berman Free Subs for Life.”

It’s unclear if the judge will ever make it down, though Rhode Island sure would be glad for the Senior United States federal judge of the U.S. District Court to come to the Ocean State for a visit.

One thing’s for sure: lunch is on the house!
