Spring Lake Beach Reopened, 2 Remain Closed

Spring Lake Beach in Burrillville was reopened to the public on Saturday, while Fort Adams and Sandy Point remain closed.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Two popular Aquidneck Island beaches are still closed following the first full weekend of summer. On Saturday, Spring Lake Beach in Burrillville was reopenedto swimming by the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Fort Adams beach in Newport and Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth were closed on Thursday due to high bacteria levels along with two other area beaches, which have since been declared safe.

The status of the beaches could change day-to-day and the department of health will continue to test the water daily until the bacteria levels return to safe levels. For up-to-date beach closure information, call RIDOH's prerecorded beach hotline at 401-222-2751.
