Two Aquidneck Island Beaches Once Again Closed

Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth and Third Beach in Middletown have been closed to swimming.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Two Aquidneck Island beaches are closed leading into the last weekend of June. Late Thursday evening, the Rhode Island Department of Health recommended closing Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth and Third Beach in Middletown due to high bacteria levels.

Sandy Point Beach only reopened three days ago on June 25 after being closed on June 20 along with three other area beaches, including Third Beach, which was reopened on June 21.

The beach at Ginny B’s Campground in Foster is still closed at this time.
