Delayed Downtown Providence Exit Closures Starting This Week
After repeatedly announcing exits 22 B and C would be closed for overnight work, work will finally begin this week.
After being delayed nearly a month, overnight work on Exits 22 B and C on Interstate 95 North in downtown Providence will begin this week. Starting Sunday, both exits will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights while crews complete bridge work.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation did not say what prompted the project's delay, as it was set to begin earlier this month.
While the exits are closed, traffic will be rerouted to Exit 23 at the state offices.

I-95 South and Exit 22 A on the northbound side will not be impacted by the closure, which will begin on Sunday and last until late July. The bridge work is part of a $10.4 million, seven-bridge project in the city. During construction, crews will repair bridge joints and railings, along with other improvements.
