Dear neighbor –

"Providence is a City of Kindness because we care for the wellbeing of all our residents. Throughout our community’s response to the ongoing public health crisis, I have seen neighbors finding innovative ways to support each other. Thank you for your commitment to keeping each other safe and healthy during this time. You are helping to save lives.

I’d like to highlight a few of our neighbors who are making a positive impact on our community. We know there are many more out there and I would like to know about all of them. Please submit acts of kindness you experience or witness through our City’s Kindness portal. As social media is a great way to stay connected right now, you can also share them with me on Facebook and Twitter.

  • Many of our neighbors suffer from food insecurity made more acute by the worsening public health crisis. Refri PVD is a community fridge located at 705 Westminster St. spearheaded by Resident Artist Mentor Dana Heng and inspired by free food fridges that have sprung up all over the country. Anyone can donate food simply by dropping it off in the fridge (and sending a note). Financial contributions can be made to paypal.me/refripvd or CashApp to $RefriPVD. Follow @Refri_PVD on Instagram for updates.
  • The Providence Recreation Department hosted its third annual turkey drive last Saturday, November 21. Thanks to all for their contributions so that more Providence families could safely enjoy a meal together during Thanksgiving.
  • Social Worker Ruth Wartenberg, along with faculty and staff at West Broadway Middle School, secured donations for essential winter clothing and supplies for older adults.
  • For every Project PVD LOVE mask sold, Frog & Toad donates one to Providence students. Because of generous people like you, over 100 masks have already been donated to the students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary.

We have seen a tremendous spirit of giving of all scales and sizes in response to the ongoing public health crisis. Please continue to support our front-line healthcare workers by washing your hands frequently, wearing a mask, and keeping six feet of distance between yourself and anyone who isn’t a part of your immediate household when out in public, and together we can keep our community safe and healthy.

You can always reach my office with any and all questions through the Mayor’s Center for City Services by dialing 3-1-1, visiting PVD311.com, or by downloading the PVD311 mobile app for 24/7 access. Residents can also register to receive CodeRED emergency notifications by phone, email, text, and/or mobile alerts for the latest updates from the City."

Sincerely,

Jorge O. Elorza
