Nordstrom At Providence Place Mall Closing
The closing will affect about 187 non-seasonal employees. Department store Boscov's will replace Nordstrom.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The Nordstrom store at the Providence Place mall is closing its doors on January 4, the company announced Tuesday.
The closing will affect about 187 non-seasonal employees, Nordstrom representatives said in a statement. The company said its working with each affected employee individually to determine what the next step is.
“The decision to close a store is always a tough one for us because we know it impacts both our customers and our employees,” Jamie Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom stores, said in a press release. “We’ve been fortunate to serve customers here for nearly 20 years and have built meaningful relationships with our customers and community in that time.

Department store Boscov's will replace Nordstrom. A Providence Place representative told Turn to 10 News that the new store an "exciting opportunity." This will be the first Boscov's store in Rhode Island.
The store first opened in 1999.
