Segue creates challenges for a healthier student body

School seeks local partner to sponsor celebrations of student health and wellness

Segue Institute for Learning, a charter school serving students grades 5 through 8 in Central Falls, is moving toward a healthier student body.

Last September, School Nurse Nichole Pinto, BSN, RN led an initiative to get kids and staff moving more throughout the day.

Each month features a new physical challenge. Examples of activities include:

  • Jumping jack into September
  • Squat-tober
  • Planks-giving
  • December-cize
  • January Jump into Rhythm and Fitness
  • Fit and Fab February for heart health
  • March Madness High Knees
  • Arm Circle April
  • May Mayhem Exercise

“Every month we map out a point system and the grade level with the most points earns a celebration at lunch,” said Pinto.

The celebrations have been fruit and yogurt parfaits.

“We are seeking a local partner to sponsor these celebrations with either healthy in-kind donations or a modest monthly monetary contribution,” said Pinto.
