Segue earns five-year charter renewal

Segue Institute for Learning, a charter school serving students grades 5 through 8 in Central Falls, today announced The Council on Elementary and Secondary Education voted to renew its charter for a term of five (5) years.

The approval by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) comes as the school celebrates a decade of excellence.

Founded in 2006 and opened in 2009, Segue Institute for Learning features high academic rigor, small class sizes, individualized attention, strong board and parental involvement, and intensive community partnerships.

The school was conceived by people who grew up, currently reside in, or have significant ties to the Central Falls community. Segue recognizes its students "at promise" versus being considered "at risk".

In a letter to Segue dated January 30, 2019, Commissioner Ken Wagner, Ph. D. writes, “Thank you for your ongoing efforts in improving educational opportunities for the children in Rhode Island.”

Initial entrance lottery is held every year on March 1st, or the first business day after if March 1st falls on a weekend. For the 2018-2019 school year, scholars applying for grades 5 and 6 will participate in the initial entrance lottery. Next year, the lottery will accept students applying for grades 4 and 5 for the 2019-2020 school year. In 2020, the lottery will accept applicants for grades 3 and 4 for the 2020-2012 school year. In 2021 and future years, all lotteries will be for grade 3 students only.

Any student applying for entry into a grade not specifically intended by the lottery or any scholar who applies after March 1st will be placed on a waiting list. All students on the waiting list will be offered entry into Segue on a "first come, first serve basis" once an opening becomes available.
