Segue starts school early with expanded elementary grades

Segue Institute for Learning, a charter school serving students grades 4 through 8 in Central Falls, began its school year on August 14, earlier than most schools in the state.

“Segue teachers and staff have already been at school for two weeks preparing buildings and also participating Professional Development workshops on curriculum, school safety, establishing school culture, among other things,” said Executive Director Angelo Garcia.

In addition to providing students an extended school day and year, Segue has added elementary grades 4 and 5 this year. The school facilitated home visits for all new students this past spring and finalized all orientation nights for its students last week.

Segue bounced back successfully from extensive water damage last spring to its elementary school with new classrooms for 4th and 5th grade.

The school will add 3rd grade in 2021.

“We continue to get applications from Central Falls families but also from other communities looking for a seat for their child,” said Garcia.

Founded in 2009, Segue celebrated its 10th anniversary this month. The school was conceived by people who grew up, currently reside in, or have significant ties to the Central Falls community. Segue recognizes its students "at promise" versus being considered "at risk".
