Suspect Charged In Death Of Providence Woman

One man was charged in the death of 50-year-old Mai Jweinat.

PROVIDENCE, RI — In a news conference Monday, police said 20-year-old Isaiah Araujo, of Connecticut and Providence, has been charged in connection to the death of a Providence woman.

Providence County Jail records show Araujo faces a murder charge and is being held without bail. ABC6 reports Araujo was also charged with felony assault and breaking and entering.

The incident began Friday when 50-year-old Mai Jweinat entered the building on Admiral Street and encountered an intruder, police said. She was startled by the intruder and the two began to struggle. Police allege Jweinat was killed in the struggle.

Police allege Araujo broke into the building to steal things but had no relationship with the Jweinat family prior to the incident.

The woman's husband and son were also injured in a struggle. Police said the couple's son had two head injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Authorities said Araujo was found about an hour later hiding in a nearby brushy area. He had been injured and was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
