Elderly Man Struck By Own Vehicle In Warwick Identified

An unresponsive 80-year-old man was found in the parking lot at 31 Universal Blvd. on the morning of March 13.

WARWICK, RI — A man who died after being apparently struck by his own vehicle in a restaurant parking lot has been identified by the Warwick Police Department as Gregory McLaughlin, 80, of West Warwick.

Warwick police at around 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 13 responded to the area of 31 Universal Blvd. for reports of a seriously injured and unresponsive man lying in the parking lot. Police say the man was located near his own vehicle. The man, later identified as McLaughlin, was rushed to Kent County Memorial Hospital in critical condition where he was declared dead.

Police say that an initial investigation revealed that McLaughlin may have beens struck by his own vehicle. However, the exact cause of death will be determined by the Rhode Island Medical Examiner's Office. Neither foul play nor suicide are suspected at this time.

The Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team and its Detective Division continue to investigate. Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at (401) 468-4344.
