Man Crashed Motorcycle While Fleeing From Warwick Police: Report
William Simas of Cranston faces criminal charges following a dramatic broad-daylight episode.

WARWICK, RI — Police say a reckless Cranston motorcyclist charged straight at a Warwick police officer before speeding away and crashing his bike in front of the Grid Iron Ale House & Grille on Post Road.
The Warwick Post reports that William A. Simas, 21, was arrested on April 15 following a dramatic broad-daylight episode.
According to a police report viewed by the Post, at around 9:30 a.m., Officer Nicholas DiNardo saw a speeding eastbound motorcyclist on Airport Road. The black 2017 Hyosung ran a red light and nearly hit a van. DiNardo positioned his cruiser, got out, and directed the biker to stop. Instead, the operator charged at DiNardo, and the officer had to jump out of the way. The officer pursued the man westbound on Airport Road onto Post Road, where the motorcyclist swerved into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed. The rider hit a curb in from of the Grid Iron and fell to the ground. His motorcycle kept going and landed in front of Elite Auto.

Simas was standing with his hands up when he was taken into custody. He was treated at Rhode Island hospital and released to police. He was hit with various criminal charges and traffic citations.

In 3rd Division District Court on April 16, Simas answered to charges of felony assault and reckless driving. Bail was revoked for a previous charge out of Cranston for felony assault and possessing a stolen vehicle. Simas at the time of his April 15 arrest was also on probation for a Cranston vandalism charge. He's due back in court April 29 for a status conference, according to Rhode Island judicial records.
