WARWICK, RI — A former Bishop Hendricken High School football star could soon suit up with the Dallas Cowboys, according to a report.

NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said Wednesday he sees the Cowboys going defense with their first-round pick and choosing Michigan edge rusher Kwity Paye at No. 10 overall, 247 Sports is reporting. Jeremiah made the remarks during NFL Network’s Path to the Draft.

NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks said Paye is the type of athlete Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn looks for in a pass rusher.

"You're looking at Dan Quinn's history, and he loves what we call these urgent athletes," Brooks said. "Twitchy guys that can come off the edge. Kwity Paye has all of that: first-step quickness, burst, nonstop motor."

At Bishop Hendricken in Warwick, Paye was a three-star recruit and the state's top-ranked high school player. As a running back and defensive end, he was named Rhode Island's Gatorade Football Player of the Year in 2016. Paye originally committed to play for Boston College, but later switched to attend the University of Michigan, where he was a two-time All-Big Ten honoree.

Paye has a remarkable story. He was born in 1998 in a refugee camp in Guinea after his mother and older brother fled the carnage of the First Liberian Civil War. Young Kwity was named after his mother's father, who was killed in that war. Eventually, the family made their way to the United States and settled in South Providence. In seventh grade, he signed up for football, and the rest is history.
