T.F. Green Airport In Warwick Could Get New Rhode Island Name
Legislation pending at the State House would change the name of T. F. Green Airport to "Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport."

WARWICK, RI —The Rhode Island Airport Corporation on Tuesday expressed support for legislation pending at the State House that would change the name of T. F. Green International Airport to “Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport.”

The "Rhode Island" identifier would help people view the Warwick-based airport as a good alternative to Logan International Airport in Boston, according to Iftikhar Ahmad, President and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.

“On behalf of all at the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the Senate and House leaders for finding common ground to consider this important legislation which provides an opportunity to invest in Rhode Island’s economy without impacting the state budget,”Ahmad said in a statement.
Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey expressed support, saying it's an "opportunity to raise the airport's brand awareness." Rep. Brian Patrick Kennedy, sponsor of the House bill, said increased name recognition will help the Ocean State's travel and tourism industry. Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi said he's "excited our airport is now getting the international attention it so deserves."

T. F. Green Airport is one of a handful of airports across the U.S. without a city, region or state in its name.
