Warwick Man Arrested In March Indicted On Sexual Assault Charges

Michael Elgar, 40, was indicted by a statewide grand jury on May 26, the Office of Attorney General Peter Neronha announced.

WARWICK, RI — A Warwick man has been indicted on four counts of first-degree sexual assault.

Michael Elgar, 40, was indicted by a statewide grand jury on May 26, the Office of Attorney General Peter Neronha announced. The alleged acts occurred in Providence and Coventry on different dates between January 1, 2014 and July 10, 2016.

The Providence and Coventry Police Departments conducted the investigations. The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned June 22 in Providence County Superior Court, Neronha's office said.

State court records show that Elgar was arrested in mid-March on four charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child. The arrest followed criminal complaints filed by police departments in both communities. Elgar was ordered held without bail with a non-domestic no-contact order.
