WARWICK, RI — The Warwick Police Department has issued an updated statement concerning a late-night March 22 motorcycle crash that left a 25-year-old city man severely injured.

Earlier this week, police said it appeared that Devin Danis of Warwick had crossed into oncoming traffic in the area of 777 Airport Rd. before his eastbound motorcycle collided with a Honda sedan. In an updated press release issued today, police walked that back.

"Initially investigators believed Danis may have crossed the center lines but this does not appear to be the case after further investigation," the statement reads. Police reviewed video footage and physical evidence. Now they say it appears Danis was traveling in the left-hand eastbound lane when he hit the Honda broadside. The Honda was pulling out of the Airport Plaza parking lot at the time.

The driver, identified as Paola Gonzalez Acosta of Providence, did not appear to be injured. She and other witnesses remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Danis, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in stable condition, police said.

On Monday night at around 11:36 p.m., police responded to Airport Road for a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. An unresponsive man was lying in the westbound lane. The Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and the investigation is still ongoing.

Police said today that it appears alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but that excessive speed appears to have contributed.
