Marijuana Firm To Appear Before Westerly Zoning Board

South County Cultivators is appealing a cease-and-desist order it received from town officials in November.

WESTERLY, RI — South County Cultivators, Inc. will appear before the Zoning Board of Review on Wednesday where the marijuana company will argue that a cease-and-desist order it received in November should be rescinded.

The cannabis cultivators were issued a notice of violation and accused of operating without zoning approval and failing to install a fence as required by the zoning board for a special use permit. Zoning and building officials issued the notice, and code enforcement officer Alonso Varga followed up with a memo outlining exactly what South County Cultivars must do to correct deficiencies. Among other things, a wastewater plan must be submitted and a fourth security camera must be installed, reports The Westerly Sun.

South County Cultivators gained a Class A medical marijuana cultivator license from the state back in July. Zoning official Nathan Reichert has asked the state Department of Business Regulation to suspend or revoke the license based on the company's alleged zoning violations.
