RIDEM To Hold Additional Surf Lifeguard Test On June 28
Every year, Rhode Island hires dozens of certified lifeguards to work at surf and non-surf beaches.

If you want to be a surf lifeguard this summer, heads up: the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management will hold an additional Conditional Surf Lifeguard Certification test later this month.
The test will be held Monday, June 28 from 9 .m. to 2 p.m. at Scarborough North State Beach in Narragansett, RIDEM announced.
All surf lifeguard candidates must have completed certain courses and hold cards in lifeguard training, first aid, and infant, child and adult CPR. A photo ID with date of birth must be presented at check-in. Candidates will be charged $10, and are required to bring either exact change or a check on the day of the exam.

DEM says it recruits 153 lifeguards every year to supervise state surf and non-surf beaches. Slots are still open for the summer season. The upcoming surf rescue test is geared toward college and high school students who couldn't take earlier tests due to their school schedules.
Candidates are encouraged to preregister for a time slot at www.riparks.com/lifeguard. Walk-ins will also be accepted. All candidates who sign in with staff between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. will be tested, RIDEM said.
