Westerly's delegates to the General Assembly will talk about the state budget and the impacts it could have upon the municipal budget.

WESTERLY, RI — Westerly's delegates to the State House will address the Town Council Monday to discuss the Rhode Island state budget and its expected impact upon the municipal budget in the upcoming fiscal year.
Sen. Dennis Algiere will join Reps. Sam Azzinaro, Brian Patrick Kennedy, and Blake Filippi at a council meeting set for 5:30 p.m. Those who wish to watch or comment should use Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89601668043 or call 929-205-6099 or 877-853-5257. The meeting ID is 896 0166 8043.
Council President Sharon Ahern invited the state lawmakers to help inform local officials. According to The Westerly Sun, the School Committee approved a $59.4 million budget for the coming fiscal year, a 2.32% increase over current spending. But because of expected cuts from the state, the budget would require a $1.6 million or 3.32% percent boost from local taxpayers. Town Manager J. Mark Rooney's municipal budget is due to the Board of Finance by March 15.
