Westerly Hospital Receives $1 Million In Two Donations

WESTERLY, RI — The Westerly Hospital Foundation has received pledges from the Alfred M. Roberts, Jr. Charitable Foundation and the Meredith and Whitney George Family Foundation with a combined contribution of $1 million.

In a news release, the hospital said the gifts will support Westerly Hospital's world-class clinical programs and help with further facility upgrades.

“We are grateful for these landmark gifts from two very generous organizations that have long supported Westerly Hospital,” said Patrick L. Green, the hospital’s president and CEO. “We believe that these donations, coupled with the clinical investments from Yale New Haven Health, will further distinguish Westerly Hospital in the our community for many years to come.”

“We are very happy to be a part of this continuing success story,” said Stephen M. Greene, administrator of the Alfred M. Roberts, Jr. Charitable Foundation.

The Georges are residents of Darien, Connecticut and of Watch Hill. They have been loyal supporters of Westerly Hospital since 1996. The couple has also supported Parkinson’s disease research at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Westerly Hospital has introduced Yale New Haven’s Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center to the campus, providing world-class oncology services to the community. The hospital opened an 18-bed behavioral health unit for the geriatric population and expanded its urology, general surgery and orthopedics programs.

Last year Yale New Haven Health invested $4 million to upgrade the pharmacy at Westerly Hospital. The investment provides the ability for pharmacists to mix chemotherapy medications on site and supports the work of the Smilow Cancer Center.

Westerly Hospital has been providing southern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut with a full range of inpatient and outpatient services in a community hospital setting for more than 90 years.
