Beacon and Cumberland Students Team Up For Spring Production

They're presenting the rock opera AIDA by Elton John and Tim Rice.

From Beacon Charter High School: Elton John and Tim Rice’s musical, AIDA, is a rock-opera re-imagination of Giuseppe Verdi’s Italian language opera of the same name. This production will be the final of Beacon Theatre Workshop’s 2017-18 season that focused on momentous themes concerning civil rights and social justice. In collaboration with Cumberland High School’s Thespian Troupe 1995, Beacon’s Thespian Troupe 7444 is presenting this show as a commentary on the harsh reality of oppression, injustice, and discrimination many minority members face in our communities, especially in the current contentious socio-political climate.

The musical is set in Ancient Egypt where Aida has been captured and enslaved, Amneris lives in a gilded cage, and her fiance, Radames, is in over his head. This love triangle in the land of the pyramids is a story of deceit and love that surpasses the confines of racism and oppression. This collaborative effort is sure to dazzle with thrilling musical numbers and striking set design.

Show dates and times are: May 3rd-5th @ 7pm & May 6th @ 2pm-- Cumberland High School Auditorium, 2600 Mendon Road, 02864. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at beacon.booktix.com, or at the door while seats are available.
