Beacon Theatre Workshop Announces Winter Production

From Beacon Charter High School: For their winter production, Beacon Theatre Workshop is bringing the Woonsocket community to Florida!-- Venice, Florida in 1962. Shakespeare’s classic The Merchant of Venice, adapted by Beacon Charter High School’s dedicated Theatre Director, Jason Robert LeClair, offers a poignant comedic look at feminism, anti-semitism, and a patriarchal/religious based justice system. All of these topics are particularly relevant now, considering the current political and socio-economic climate. Even with such heavy topics, the cast and crew find the inherent humor in Shakespeare’s classic story of love and revenge. Come laugh with the amazing Beacon Thespian Troupe and enjoy! Show dates and times are: January 11 - 13 at 7:00pm and January 14 at 2:00pm at the Beacon Theatre Workshop, 320 Main Street Woonsocket 02895, 3rd floor.

Free attendance to the show was also offered to schools in RI for two school day performances. This “Peer to Peer Shakespeare” event was designed by Beacon’s Theatre Director, LeClair, who had great success with this event last year with four schools that attended. The event was opened to any schools in the state that could find their way to the Beacon Theatre Workshop to learn about the art of theatre, and to talk with the cast and crew after the show. This year, the Beacon Theatre Workshop filled its seats for the “Peer to Peer Shakespeare” shows within hours of the announcement! Five schools from around RI will be coming to the events on January 11th and 12th at 10:00 AM.
