George Nasuti, a man who touched the hearts and lives of thousands, has died.
Family members said that Nasuti died Tuesday night on Feb. 11 surrounded by people who loved him.
"He passed peacefully and we take great comfort in knowing that in his final days he was doing what he loved most, and that’s being around young people and working in sports," the family said.
Condolences for the family have been pouring in on a Facebook page set up in the wake of the injury he sustained last Friday after he fell during a basketball game in Burrillville.
Nasuti had been in a coma since the injury.
Athletic Director for Woonsocket, Nasuti had a reputation for being strong, respected and infinitely kind hearted.Â
"He is one of the classiest and [most] well respected people in the state," wrote Brady Maidement, president of the Rhode Island Athletic Director's Association.Â
Nasuti's family is asking for privacy during this difficult time.Â
"While this is a private moment for us, we understand that we shared Coach with thousands of people and have felt those thoughts and prayers over these last few days. In the very near future we will announce a public celebration of his life. Thank you for your support during this difficult time."
