Woonsocket, RI - Maybe it was all the social media mockery, but CVS finally wised up and axed its obscenely long receipts.
The Woonsocket retail pharmacy company said this week the paper receipts - which often stretch a foot or longer thanks to included coupons - will soon be optional. The company announced the move on Jimmy Kimmel Live, after the late-night host's crusade against the lengthy receipts.
"We heard loud and clear that while our customers love receiving coupons and special offers, many wanted a paperless option," Helena Foulkes, CVS president, said in a press release.

Rewards program members can now receive their receipts and coupons digitally, if they opt in. That saves customers the hassle of carrying around a yard stick's worth of spare paper and no doubt saves several forests' worth of trees.
Perhaps the only downside of the new program is that we'll now miss out on Tweets like this:

And that Kimmel will have to find a new foe:

CVS' digital receipt program launches in June, and will eventually be available at all CVS locations, according to the company.
