CVS To Open 10 More Drive-Thru Coronavirus Test Sites In RI

WOONSOCKET, RI — Rhode Island-based pharmacy giant CVS announced Thursday it will open 10 additional COVID-19 test sites in Rhode Island. The sites will be set up at CVS pharmacy locations around the state.

No testing will happen inside the pharmacies themselves, the company said. Instead, testing will be conducted at the pharmacy drive-thru using self-swab tests. An employee will watch the test to make sure it is done properly. An appointment will be required, and registration will open Friday. The tests will be sent to a third-party lab, and results can be expected within three days.

The new test sites are part of the company's goal to open 1,000 sites across the country by the end of May, aiming for 1.5 million tests processed per month. More than half of these test sites are aimed to serve communities hit hardest by the pandemic.

CVS opened a rapid test site at Twin River Casino in Lincoln in early April. Tests are available to adults only, by online reservation only.
