Ivey-Jones Moves On

The Woonsocket High Villa Novans coach is leaving for the ABA.

Kyle Ivey-Jones, Woonsocket High boys’ basketball head coach, is stepping down. He is leaving to become the first-ever coach for the Providence Sky Chiefs of the American Basketball Association.

The Woonsocket Call reported that Ivey-Jones began serving as Woonsocket’s hoops coach during the 2006-07 season. The team advanced to the state finals before falling to eventual champion Bishop Hendricken in overtime in the winter of 2008, under the guidance of Ivey-Jones. Since last making the playoffs in 2010, the Villa Novans posted three straight one-win seasons in Division I before rebounding slightly with a 4-14 finish last winter.

“My expectations are to have great fan support and to have something new,” Ivey-Jones said to NBC 10. “Because we know that not everybody can make it up to Boston to see the Celtics all the time. But right here locally you can see a professional team.”
