Here are the top five stories in Woonsocket today:

1. Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea officially announced she is running for governor in 2022. According to her campaign, this is the first time a Latina has run for governor in both Rhode Island and New England. (Patch)

2. New unemployment rules went into effect in Rhode Island over the weekend. Under the new rules, residents collecting unemployment benefits can earn up to 150 percent of their weekly benefits before losing their eligibility and can continue to collect the $300 weekly bonus as long as they are eligible. (Patch)

3. Gas prices in Rhode Island continue to rise, now nearing an average of $3 per gallon. The price for regular, unleaded gas in the state is $2.94, up one cent from last week, 13 cents from last month, and 97 cents from last year. (Patch)

4. Yazmin Rivera, 19, of Cumberland, has been accused of conspiring to commit murder in Providence and dealing narcotics in Pawtucket. Investigators say she is facing charges in connection with an unnamed homicide. (Patch)

5. The Providence school district superintendent resigned Saturday after the Rhode Island Department of Education agreed to terminate his contract. Harrison Peters was asked to resign after an administrator he hired was accused of touching a boy's feet at a Warwick gym without consent (NBC 10)
