Community Care Alliance is hosting its 29th Annual ShelterWalk on Saturday October 14th at River Island Park in Woonsocket. Registration for the three mile walk begins at 9:00 am, and the walk kicks off at 10:00 am. Proceeds support the Woonsocket Shelter and homelessness prevention programs. Established in 1989 and one of the major shelter and transitional housing programs in Rhode Island, the Woonsocket Shelter provides a critical safety net for the homeless.
In addition to emergency housing for homeless women and families, the shelter program provides supportive services that address issues that contributed to homelessness and help people establish a path to a better life. Last year, 139 individuals, half of them children were served in shelter program.
Individuals, families and teams from schools, churches, businesses and neighborhoods are encouraged to participate. Major sponsors are: St. James Episcopal Church, CBIZ, Mutual of America, Provider Group, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, St. James Baptist Church, Children’s Friend, Soucy Insurance and Friendly Home.
