SMITHFIELD, RI — Snow is forecast for points north and northwest of Providence on Christmas Day. According to the National Weather Service, Smithfield could see 3 - 5 inches. But some spots could see as much as 7 inches. Yet, it won't last all day. The snow is expected to fall between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Before that, the snow will mix with sleet and rain. And by afternoon, the sun could be shining.
The Winter Weather Advisory stays in effect until 1 p.m. Here is the forecast from the National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY UNTIL 1 PM EST MONDAY...
* WHAT...Light to moderate snow expected mixed with sleet and
freezing rain at times. Plan on slippery road conditions. Total
snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches, with localized amounts up
to 7 inches, are expected along with a trace of ice.
* WHERE...Portions of northern Connecticut, central,
northeastern and western Massachusetts and northern Rhode
Island.
* WHEN...Until 1 PM EST Monday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for reduced visibilities at
times.
