The city currently has a COVID-19 vaccination rate of 45.7%.

WOONSOCKET, RI — The City of Woonsocket has been deemed a coronavirus 'cold spot' with one of the lowest vaccination rates in the state, reported WPRI.

According to the latest data from the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH), 45.7% of Woonsocket residents are either partially or fully vaccinated. The state's other 'cold spot' is Tiverton, which currently has a vaccination rate of 47.7%.

The towns with the highest vaccination rates include East Greenwich and Barrington, both with over 74% of people at least partially vaccinated.

The gap in vaccination rates may be due to vaccine hesitancy and the spread of misinformation about the vaccine, according to Dr. Philip Chan of RIDOH. Health officials are now shifting their focus to the areas struggling the most with vaccine distribution.
