Woonsocket Library Offers Children's Programs During School Vacation

Learn ballet, make a log cabin out of pretzels, do chemistry experiments, celebrate Chinese New Year and more.

Looking to keep your kids occupied during school vacation week? School may be out, but the library’s still open for business.

The Woonsocket library is holding a program for kids every day from Monday, Feb. 16 to Friday, Feb. 20.

Monday

Creative Movement by Heritage Ballet of Lincoln, RI

  • Learn simple ballet movement with instructors.
  • 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Children ages 3 1/2 to 8 are invited to attend with a caregiver.

How to Make a Log Cabin out of Pretzels

  • The library will supply the materials, you supply the imagination.
  • 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • The program is for children ages 8 to 12.
  • Pretzels, graham crackers cake and frosting will be used. Let staff know if you have a food allergy. No nuts will be used.

Tuesday

Preschool Storytime

  • Children can listen to stories, sing songs, watch a brief movie and make a craft to take home.
  • 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • The program is for children ages 2 to 6 with a caregiver.

Musician Greg Cooney

  • Local musician Greg Cooney will entertain families with songs and plenty of audience participation.
  • 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • The program is for children ages 3 1/2 and up who are accompanied by a caregiver.

Wednesday

Chemical Change Detectives Science Show

  • Find out what happens when two different chemicals like baking soda and vinegar combine. Science teacher Kim Bent will be there.
  • 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
  • The program is for kids ages 4 to 8.

Tapping into Tap Water— Science Show

  • Learn how clean water comes into your home. Science teacher Kim Bent will be there.
  • 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The program is for kids ages 9 to 12.

Thursday

Childrens Book Author Emily McKeon

  • The author of “Who will Dance with me?” is coming to the library to read from her book and do a craft.
  • 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Friday

Chinese New Year Celebration for Kids

  • Learn some Chinese culture with teacher Miss Annie Wen. Sing a song, pick up objects with chopsticks and more.
  • 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Call Woonsocket Harris Public Library children’s services at 769-9044 ext 2 to register. Registration is required for all programs.
